Exercise Bikes or Exercise Cycles as they are also commonly referred to as, are great at helping you improve your cardiovascular fitness. If you are a keen cyclist or simply want a low impact piece of fitness equipment to help you burn calories then an exercise bike could be for you.
The beauty of exercise bikes is that you can cycle your way to fitness from the comfort of your own home. There is no need for expensive gym memberships and they also fit into almost any home environment making them an ideal home fitness product.
There are three main types of exercise bikes; upright, recumbent and spinning bikes.
- Upright
The traditional type of exercise bike where you sit in an upright position. It allows you to cycle in a variety of positions (e.g sitting or standing) as your movement is not restricted.
- Recumbent
These type of bikes are becoming increasingly popular as they are often more comfortable to use and can help support the lower back whilst cycling.
- Spinning Bike
Often found in gyms and healthclubs for spinning classes but they are now becoming popular home models. They provide an intense and challenging workout.
All the bikes provide a similar level of cardiovascular training and calorie burning. Each bike has advantages and disadvantages relative to the other. The only way to determine which one is right for you is to try several models out to make sure it is comfortable and works the specific muscle groups you want to work the most.
