Training for a marathon in the British Winter
The London Marathon is on April 13th next year and some people will begin training soon after Christmas. Home Gym Equipment can't help provide the willpower and courage that is necessary to get out in freezing temperatures, but we can help with a few tips to make things easier. Firstkeep entertained to keep motivated. Training for a marathon can be a pastime, and an MP3 player with a good selection of songs is a must. a playlist of your favourites to the time that you want to achieve, to you going on the day itself Second, mix it up - run different courses, even use a treadmill - these will be better for your joints, as long you find a machine with the right level of shock absorbers; Also, to the machine to 2% incline to compensate for a lack of wind that you would normally get outside. Third, ask a personal trainer for and advice. Even if it's a monthly session, a PT can set you a programme, monitor your physical condition and keep you focused on your ultimate goal. We'd love to know that would be on your MP3 player for a training session or for the marathon itself. Email us and we'll post it on this page to give others some inspiration. Bob has set up a website called jogtunes.com and his suggestion for a 30 minute session is this:

If you have an Ipod already, the best thing we can recommend is the Timex IControl Watch which allows you to change tracks from your wrist. A very useful gadget! In terms of getting the right training environment the most important thing is a good pair of running shoes. For those want to do some of their work on a treadmill, it's important this is comfortable. A well built treadmill can provide a cushioned running with good shock absorbers. If you are considering purchasing a new machineit's certainly worth trying them out as some people prefer a softer and some a harder deck - like a mattress , there's no right or wrong. we do quite like the LifeFitness T7-0 as you can adjust the spring to get the right level. Finally, to find a Personal Trainer, either a recommendation from a friend or visit the National Register of Trainers. You can search for qualified, insured and experienced on their website by town or postcode. From us at Home Gym Equipment, next time, good luck with the training. Keep warm and keep motivated!
