Lonsdale Boxing was founded in London in 1960, producing boxing equipment before branching out into sports and fashion clothing. In 2007 the Lonsdale brand was owned by Sports World International.
It was the fifth Earl of Lonsdale after whom Lonsdale Boxing is named. He started to organise boxing matches in 1909 and when a champion Boxer defended his title three times he would be given the Lonsdale belt. It was Bernard Hart, himself a former boxer, asked the Earl's permission to use his name for boxing equipment and clothing.
Many well known boxers such as Ali, Tyson and Cooper have sported Lonsdale attire. Since Sports World took over the company, many Title Boxing products have been rebranded Lonsdale.
