A great addition to a home gym, stability discs are used in a variety of ways to help with balance, posture and rehab.
Stability discs have two different surfaces, one dimpled, one smooth, and can be inflated or deflated to create the correct pressure and thickness.
Stability discs provide a great addition to your home workouts, enabling you to add the vital area of balance to your program. They are also a great way of increasing the intensity of exercises such as lunges, biceps curls, squats, push-ups and crunches.
Many of these exercises involve standing on the stability disc, which makes it a great adjunct to a gym ball, which you can only sit on. In addition you can sit on the disc - using it in this way provides an unstable base for seated exercises, which forces you to sit in a more upright position.
As with a gym ball, this "active sitting" engages and strengthens your abdominal and low-back muscles, forcing your core muscles to engage and support your spine.
They are also popular in rehab, with therapists using them extensively to help strengthen and stabilize ankles, knees, core and shoulders.
