For such a simple form of exercise, there's a remarkable number of running products on the market. Of course, you can go native and run naked and barefoot, but if you want to be comfortable - not to mention decent - then there are some running products you need to purchase.
The first and most important running product is of course shoes. A good pair of running shoes is essential - they will make your running safe and comfortable, and can reduce your risk of injury.
To be sure you are buying the shoes that are right for you - and this varies according to your weight, gait, and mileage - it's best to go to a specialist shop. They will have a great selection to choose from, and knowledgeable assistants to help you find the right pair of shoes for you.
Almost as important - though easier to choose - are socks. Your old cotton socks you wore for PE aren't the best thing to wear, they are probably made of cotton, and will get wet and bunch up after a few miles, causing blisters. Shell out a few quid and get some dedicated running socks that wick moisture and are padded in the right places.
Other things you might consider are some comfortable clothing, and items like a good watch or heart rate monitor.
